Welcome to my site.

I started my visual journey as a children’s book author illustrator back in the 1980’s producing over 50 books - google: Rodney McRae.

In the 1990’s I experimented with photography exhibiting my images at the Australian Centre for Photography (ACP) in Sydney and in several publications and twice as a finalist in the Blake Prize for Religious Art -2005 & 2006.

Since 2008 I have been exploring sculpture and installation art concentrating on conservation and human-animal themes. During this period I have been a finalist in the Wynne Prize for Australian landscape/figurative sculpture, Art Gallery of NSW in 2007 & 2010; the Fishers Ghost Art Prize in 2007, 2009 and 2012; Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi in 2008, 2011 & 2012; and mounted my first major solo show of sculpture “The Heart of the Matter’ at King Street Gallery on William in 2010. My first traveling show Wunderkammer, the cabinet of Wonders, has been on the move on the Regional Art Gallery circuit since 2013, my new show AFTER-LIFE, Animal Stories from beyond Grave, debuts in Adelaide from 13 FEB til 01 MAY 2016 in partnership with the National Trust of South Australia.

My principal area of investigation remains how art can influence and reinforce the environment and climate change debate. I draw on my knowledge and interest in taxidermy working with ethically sourced specimens as diverse as Polar Bear, Zebra, Lion, Lamb, Fox, Penguin, insects, skeletons and plant material to create installations to challenge human perceptions of the natural world and the non human species that inhabit it.

I would like to believe that art can make a difference!
